Corina is a Karen refugee who is a teacher and runs a preschool in Mae-la camp.
Corina has more than 70 children in her preschool, she also has five teachers. Over the years Corina has written her own curriculum and trained and mentored over 100 preschool teachers in the camp. Her curriculum is used all 23 of the Mae La camps preschools. Preschool teachers from local Thai villages and from Karen state (Burma) also seek out Corina for training and mentoring. This has made her refugee camp preschool very influencial.
The camp children who benefit form Corina’s work have all escaped out of Burma and many have been traumatized; but with Corina they find love and fun and a solid foundation on which they can begin their education. Many families who are experiencing difficulties often come to Corina for help. Her preschool is more than a centre for early childhood education, it has become a centre where families in need can come for help.
Corina relies on the support of Australian Mercy to keep her preschool open and continue the mentioring program, your donation will help to keep this viatal ministry alive.
