The second round of Buzz Off seminars in Myanmar for 2015 are completed. The team arrived in Yangon November 29 and will leave to return home again December 14.
The first seminars of this round were run in the Irrawaddy the village of Udoe, where 52 people from the all over the Irrawaddy came to be trained. People from Yangon and Chin state also came to this training.
The Irrawaddy does not have high malaria rates but is suffering from increased rates of Dengue fever and Filariasis. This seminar was very successful and we believe that as people address the mosquito issues in their communities they will see infections rates of these two diseases also decrease.
The second training was done in Mandalay, although most of the participants came from other places. 27 healthcare workers from the Anglican church health care network were trained. These participants came from Northern and Southern Shan State, Middle Myanmar, Sagaing Division, Chin State, Kachin State, Pegu Region, Nagaland, Kyah State as well as Mandalay.
These 27 healthcare workers are from some of the most malaria endemic regions in the country.
Our thanks to Bishop David Nyi Nyi Naing for having invited the Anglican healthcare workers to undergo the training and opening the training with a work of encouragement.
Special thanks also to Dr Marlar Than , who chairs the church medical committee (and is also a graduate of our March seminar), for organizing the seminars.
This single seminar has effectively reached communities from all over the nation.
In addition to this training and the training completed in April of this year which saw another 102 people trained. Buzz Of f has distributed over 7000 LLIN mosquito nets into the regional Myanmar, including over 2000 nets to flood victims and 5000 nets into the IDP zones in Shan and Karen states. We also continue to offer medical support to clinics working in these areas as well.
Buzz Off has yet to finalize its Burma training targets for 2016.
An out reach program into Africa is planned for mid year 2016.
