It’s Christmas in July the time when Australia does Christmas in the winter time!
This is also the time that Australian Mercy begins to fundraise for Christmas in the Camp!
In Mae-la camp there is little for children to do. Food rations are reduced, medical services are almost no existent and schools are underfunded which means that the educational choices available to children, and camp morale are very, very low.
Each December, Australian Mercy gives more than 2,000 children in Mae-la camp a Christmas party. We do this by running a Christmas program in all of the camp’s preschools. It is a time of fun and celebration. There are games and a nutritional Christmas Dinner. There is singing and loads of fun. Each child gets a small gift. For many families, it is the one event in the camp that they look forward to.
In the coming weeks, we need to raise $5,000 to make sure that two thousand children in Mae-la camp receive a small Christmas present, and nutritional Christmas dinner and have some unbelievable Christmas fun. That is Christmas for about $2.50 per child.
