Tasmanian team to go to Mae-la camp to teach English

A team of 6 teachers will leave this Thursday(July 4) for Thailand to teach English in the Mae-la camp.

The team are from Connections Anglican Church in Somerset and comprise of five trained teachers and one nurse. The team will be led by David Skeat.

English is taught in the camp by non English speakers who in turn have been taught English by non English speakers. This team is hoping to train the trainers as well as privide some English lessons to school students in the camp.

English is an essential language in the camp especially for those who are being repatriated into English speaking countries. A better understanding of English provides better integration of refugees.

The team will return to Tasmania on July 23.
