Ukraine Appeal Update

Be encouraged! $12,232 has been donated to Australian Mercy’s Ukraine appeal. And, as mentioned in the appeal, the Australian Mercy board matched donations up to $10,000. This means Australian Mercy will send $22,232 to Ukraine! Thank you for your generosity!

All $12,232 given by donors will go to assisting Ukrainian refugees. Most have little to nothing, and many still need help just to feed themselves and get settled. Andrew, an Australian married to a Ukrainian, has lived and worked in Ukraine for more than 20 years. Andrew and his team will administer half the relief funds, distributing aid to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the north and east of Ukraine, who have fled attack and moved near Kyiv and more western regions of the country.

The other half of these relief funds will be sent to Marinela, our contact in Iasi, Romania – a city near the border with Ukraine. Marinela and her team have been assisting Ukrainians in Ukraine, the neighbouring country of Moldova, in their city of Iasi, and in a larger Romanian city named Cluj.

The $10,000 matched by Australian Mercy will help in the second stage of a crisis, which is called the restoration or rehabilitation phase. We will especially focus on finding meaningful activities or employment for the many displaced Ukrainians. These funds will also be administered by Andrew and Marinela.

Once again, thank you for your generous giving – because together WE CAN!
