Australian Mercy launches a campaign to put O2 concentrators in needy communities

In South East Asia, COVID 19 is killing thousands each day. In Burma, where COVID is particularly bad, the military junta is confiscating oxygen tanks and forcing the closure of pharmacies. People are dying in huge numbers.

Through its partnerships, Australian Mercy is able to get medical oxygen concentrators delivered into Yangon and placed in communities where covid is a deadly problem.

Oxygen concentrators are medical devices that assist people who have a low level of oxygen in their blood. They are powered by plugging the device into an electrical outlet or by using a battery. An oxygen concentrator receives air, purifies it, and then distributes the newly formed air into the lungs. People with covid 19 whose breathing is impaired because of the effects of covid need oxygen.

To buy and deliver one oxygen concentrator to Yangon will cost $1,000. We have already sent one and many more are needed.

We anticipate that we will extend this campaign to provide O2 concentrators to other nations as well as Burma, but for now, because of the military’s interventions to worsen the infection rates we are starting with Burma.
